I currently have 100 million credits saved up. I'm wanting a combat ship for my next purchase. If I was smarter I would buy a second Python for the mining, and sell the Krait or repurpose it, but I like the view from the Krait's cockpit. I usually leave the scoop at the nearest station, and take sensors with me to probe the rings, then I switch back to the scoop, when I'm full, or ready to sell. The Krait has one less optional slot than the Python, which means I usually fly without advanced sensors or a fuel scoop.

My last haul of mixed diamonds, opals, and whatever else that was in the the hold sold for just over 150mil. It's engineered just enough to hit 40ly jump range empty. I have a Krait MkII set up for deep core mining, that cost approx. spend a day or two doing that, and you'll have enough cash to outfit anything you want, with plenty left over for multiple rebuys. I would say get a Python set it up for opal mining. sort of trader/explorer, but armed enough to handle npc pirates with ease. Outfitting a Conda can get quite expensive. I'm not sure you would be able to effectively outfit a Conda for combat on a 100mil budget.

You can outfit a ship for both, but both of those functions will be diminished on the same ship. Both are great ships, but if you have a budget of 100mil I would say the Python will give you more bang for your buck. For example, a combat build will never be good at mining. One of the fun aspects of Elite Dangerous is the process of Outfitting your ship for specific purposes. The different experiences to be gained from those different builds also vary greatly. The number of ship builds possible is amazingly large with the introduction of Engineering. Ships are equivalent to different characters in Elite Dangerous.

What mining strategy should you implement with the ships you currently have access to?

A Cutter can basically do it all but is very expensive to purchase and outfit, plus there is the cost of time to get the rank to even buy the thing. The Cobra is known to be fast, so perhaps you equip it to run when the time comes. There are certainly more you could add to the list below but the point is to think about the context in which you will be mining. Can you afford it if you lose this ship? NEVER FLY WITHOUT REBUY!.Is the ship I’m in easy to avoid interdictions with? It will happen. How much can I hold and how far is the best station to sell it at?.Should I just plan to give up the cargo demanded by the pirates?.Knowing these answers before venturing into the void will greatly affect your mining experience. Here are some questions to ask yourself when planning your build and play style. A type 10 on the other hand will make you wonder if your controller is broken, but is more likely to take punishment long enough to escape and can hold much more cargo. For example, a Cobra isn’t going to be a large capacity miner but will be fast and very maneuverable. Before we get into the specific recipes of Ship Builds, let’s talk about general strategies for those builds.
